This week has been busy for us, however, very rewarding.
Today was a beautiful Veteran's Day Service and it was amazing to see the support from our students, staff, parents, grandparents and community members. We are proud of all our family members that have served and continue to serve! Another big topic of discussion this week was the election. The kids were thrilled to be talking about it in class. We even voted on SS Weekly so our vote counted! The questions and comments about the election were awesome!! Here are some other things going on in the world of Grade 4: Religion- We are talking about and relating the 10 Commandments to our individual lives. Social Studies- We have been talking about the first explorers of New York State (Verranzo, Cartier, Champlain and Henry Hudson). They have looked at maps to see the paths they have sailed and why they found NYS in the first place! Science- We are in full swing of our Circuit unit. The children love the hands on activities with the batteries and trying to find new closed circuits. Math- Our Unit Test is coming up next week on Module 1. It is on rounding, subtraction and addition word problems. ELA- We continue to read The Sign of the Beaver and work on our writing. Our big focus is providing an answer including details. It is easy for us to list answers and come up with them, but we are focusing on providing proof from what we read to support our answers. We will continue to work on that in our New York State Progress Book and with other reading resources.

Thanks for the update, Melissa! Sounds like the kids are really interested not only in history, but current events as well!
