It is getting busy but here are a few updates for you:
Religion- We completed a unit with Role Models and what those look like and how Jesus was the ultimate role model for us. We are moving into the Beatitudes and what those mean in depth. SS- The kids started an At-Home Project. They chose Loyalist or Patriot at random and began brainstorming a poster creation that would have been published in a newspaper. Some research should be done at home with moms and dads to provide good reasons to join the side chosen. This is a great time to enrich what has been talked about at school with the symbols and reasons for their poster. It is due on February 15. Math- We are in Module 4, over half way learning about angles and measurements. We are beginning to talk a little about Geometry and some vocabulary surrounding it. Science- We are into our Energy unit, talking about different types of energy and how they change. Reading- We are still reading Shiloh in cooperative and guided groups. The fourth graders really enjoy this book and some of the real life issues that surround this story. There is an informational meeting requested for parents in fourth grade on February 13 at 7:00 PM. Sr. Kay is asking that if you cannot attend to please make her aware!

We have much planned for the month of January.
Here is just a sneek peek of what we have been working on: New Year's Resolutions and Religion: Students each have an academic goal stated on their desk they are working towards, daily or weekly. They really have embraced this concept and working hard to "become a better person". Science: We are getting into energy lessons. Heat, Sound, Mechanical, and Light Energy are just to name a few. SS: The students are beginning the American Revolution Unit. They are really interested in the battles and weapons used back then and how our country has come to be! Math: We are continuing to measure angles and shapes as part of unit 3. ELA: The students are working on Word study words twice a week and a new book called "Shiloh". They will be working on for the month of January, vocabulary words and what words mean. The class is really good about giving examples and is now working on actual meanings. Here is a sneek peek of what is to come: Catholic Schools Week at the end of January The Snowball Dance Research on the battles of the American Revolution The judgements and collaborative learning in life experiences with the story "Shiloh" |
